My boyfriend and I REALLY loved legend of Korra however we really did not love any of the male characters (other then Tenzin) and we really loved the two females because lets face it they are fucking awesome. Tormented by the fact that we could not cosplay as our fav characters without stuffing a bra and tucking away some junk we decided to draw out potential gender bend designs and one thing led to another and we ended up cosplaying the two.
If u have any questions about design choices feel free to ask.

These are really cool, though I do have one question. It's more of a curiosity thing, not like I think it's wrong or a bad choice, but why keep male!Asami's hair long? I actually quite like it that way, but when I envision a genderbent Asami, I usually picture his hair much shorter.
Anyways, absolutely love the costumes and you two portray the characters (and their badass-ness) spectacularly.
Honestly hair was the thing me and my Boyfriend played around the most with, a lot of sketches right until the last week we could order both our wigs and we made the call. It was funny cause he had the costume deisgns in about five minutes. I had actually decided to go short, but Ryan (the Korra/my boyfriend) drew an amazing pic with the hair long and I was sold it looked how I wanted the costume to look so while I totally thought it was gonna be harder to sell with long hair as masculine I figured I might as well try cause the pay off would be great. In terms of reasons though hair is one of Asami's defining characteristics, the colours in her outfit are not strong nor is the style, as it is very similar to equalists. Her other ones are her eyes, and her make up. So as I could not have the make up for obvious reasons I felt in order to keep connected tot he original character's feel the volume in the hair was a needed. And there are not many short hair styles that have the "swoop" volume to them and I couldn't find anything that i liked that didn't look like the douche waterbender who hits on Korra (can;t remember his name) or didn't look modern.
I hope that answers it I am terrible at explaining things but I guess the bets thing to say it was more an intuitive choice that also worked with the historical concept of that world?
No, you explained it perfectly. That is really cool and I definitely got an "Asami" feel from the hair style, despite it being a male version of the character. Anyways, thanks for explaining; it's cool to me when cosplayers (or artists in general) change characters around and still manage to keep them true to the character's self, so I love getting the explanations for the different parts that they have changed or altered.
